Today there was an article on how 6% of male fish, especially bass, have female egg cells growing in them. This is primarily due to the hormones in birth control pills that are excreted during urination, and then enter our water supply. The world and its inhabitants are intertwined in ways we do not truly comprehend. Certainly, this side effect was not something I anticipated when I took “the pill” during my 20s. Birth control pills affected my body as well, but I did not realize it until I stopped taking them.

Three years after I stopped taking birth control pills, I still was not pregnant and had one miscarriage. The hormones put my body on a cycle that it couldn’t seem to get out of. I also began to have acne for the first time in my life. I wished I had practiced shamanism then, I certainly would had requested a healing for myself. But the divine has a way of intervening when needed.

It was Christmas Eve and we were cleaning up after our party. As I was washing dishes, my mother-in-law stood beside me to help dry. I brought up the fact that it looked like my husband and I wouldn’t be able to have children. Three years is a long time. My mother-in-law looked at me with great sympathy, put her hand on my shoulder and said, “I am sure you will have a baby.” Immediately, I felt a bolt of energy go from her hand, down my spine and into my womb. I knew I was pregnant at that moment! A week later it was confirmed and Savannah was born the following September.

It’s funny, I call myself a healer, but we are all healers. Whether we are listening to a friend, helping a stranger, or building a child’s confidence. We are healers the moment we help someone believe in themselves or give them hope.
